Electric Book Communities

Service descriptionEBC builds 'Electric Book Communities' for businesses, government entities and content publishers. The Communities leverage high quality content through an enhanced forum technology that allows a subscriber to reference any number of web pages and any segment of content in a message to other community members.

These services take a number of different forms:

  • E-Journal Clubs - a service designed for scientific publishers in which journals and literature are delivered as the basis for online dialog
  • Product Community - online services designed to empower your customer base to solve technical problems through state-of-the art documentation and messaging
  • E-Study Teams - Publishers can deliver content designed specifically for distance learning applications

For our corporate clients who wish to implement a project dedicated to their special needs, Electric Book delivers value through its Cholabris line of services.

Cholabris services are project-based implementations of its Trivium technology designed for corporate settings (behind corporate firewalls). These implementations range from relatively straightforward document review repositories to more ambitious projects involving system development or customer service activities.

Regardless of the specifics of your company's needs, Electric Book is committed to improving the cost-effectiveness of your technical support team, or enhancing the revenue potential of high-demand content.

Improve Cost Effectiveness, Monetize Content

Companies and publishers distribute web content for one of two reasons:

  • Deliver value to the public or a subscriber community
  • Reduce costs related to customer support activities
Electric Book Company's experience in document production processes (XML, DocBook, XSLT) and browser technology (IE8, Firefox, Chrome, Opera) - places its team at the lead of developing the next generation of online community technology for today's companies, schools, and publishers.

State of the Art Technology

While many tools are available from the open source community to deliver online forum services, there are some challenges encountered in their use:

  1. There is too much stuff on many of today's forum pages. The revenue model for many public forums requires so many ads and login screens, community members are often at loss to follow any thread of questions, much less find the answer to their question.
  2. Users can reference any document they want, as long as they can remember the 'URL'. Many online tools allow users to add an 'anchor' that links to another document, but remembering the URL for a document can be challenging.
  3. Even when a user references a document, it is a challenge to find a specific part of the document that is being referenced. Today's referencing technology 'stops' at the document boundary - the ability to reference detailed document selection means a tedious 'cut and paste' process.

We believe that there is a better way to connect high value content with a new messaging platform, one that is document-centric (uses words) and one that allows a greater degree of resolution as community members discuss their interpretations, criticisms, and insightsÂ
