State of the Art Technology for Today's Problems in Distance Learning

E-mail Print PDF
Today's e-learning environment requires both a management platform to deliver, track, and manage educational content, and creative coursework that combines  the next-generation of web technology with a 'social' component to support collaborative learning.

For e-learning management services, EBC turns to moodle.org, the premier provider of an open source Learning Management System used by hundreds of companies and schools world-wide.

But course management is only the beginning. For companies and schools seeking the 'next level' of e-learning  interaction in the areas of math and science, EBC uses the latest technology standards to deliver message-enhanced e-courseware. These technologies are assembled to provide an innovative combination of publishing and messaging for topics that are hamstrung by today's 'words and pictures' dominated web.

MathML and trig functions
For years, web standards like MathML and SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) have promised to make life easier for technical publishing, but only with the advent of HTML5 are those promises starting to bear fruit.

EBC makes extensive use of the latest standards that will be adhered to by all modern browsers. Where short-term limitations may exist, the Company partners with other like-minded companies to provide plug-ins and solutions that support the widest possible markets.

The result is a delivery service that is 'math friendly' - allowing high quality display of on-line mathematics and graphics that retain  fidelity over a wide range of browsers and hand-held devices.

In short, the technology family used by EBC provides the next generation of distance learners with the tools that enable not only reading and viewing,  but communicating and collaborating.

The Trivium Framework is a web application that can be served by a 'TFS' (Trivium Framework Server), or can be deployed behind the the corporate firewall as part of the project Intranet.

The application uses W3C standard browser technology to implement a mult-frame appllication that access all the web applications on the same domain ---- any XHTML standard web page that collects the digital assets of an organization in the same domain as the TFS can be 'message enabled' for community use.

The application itself uses cost-effective open source resources for deployment:

  • PHP server (Zend Framework)
  • MySQL database
  • Linux/Fedora/Centos server (preferred)
  • Apache web server
